We tour Lafayette Cemetery #1, the oldest municipal cemetery, and the most filmed cemetery in New Orleans. Learn about the unique above-ground tombs and burial process. Throughout our stroll, under the large magnolias, we introduce you to some amazing stories in this historic cemetery and share with you some of New Orleans’ most treasured burial customs. (Note: In the event that the cemetery is closed due to a funeral or other reasons beyond our control, the cemetery portion of the tour is done outside of the gate. This rarely happens.)
