About this activity

This informative half-day walking tour explores the history and treasures of Durham. Sitting under the fantastic Cathedral and the imposing Castle, Durham is architecturally inspiring. While the peninsular of Durham has a long history of being inhabited, the location became famous in 995 when the community of St. Cuthbert brought the body of the saint to Durham. From that point on, it was the home of the powerful and influential Bishops of Durham. This tour includes entrance to Durham Cathedral and the Open Treasures. The open Treasures are artefacts gathered by the community of St. Cuthbert and the Bishops of Durham over the last thousand years and include the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon artefacts in northern England.
