The Great Illusions

Masterpieces of Magic Art

In 1850, Robert-Houdin had the idea of using his son to achieve the suspension ethereal, an illusion where the human body seems to defy the laws of gravity. This prodigy marks the beginning of the so-called numbers of great illusions in which one or more people are the object of the tricks presented by the illusionists.

The Katia Buatier Chair (1845-1903), allows the instant disappearance of the young woman who takes place on the magical seat.

De Vere (1834-1931) showed his daughter Iona the Witch in a giant vase that turned into a beautiful bush of flowers.

The Museum has two versions of the mythical tour of The Sawed Woman: one of the first richly decorated versions is the one used by Thurston famous American magician of the beginning of the century. In this model, the table does not separate. The other, more advanced version splits into two parts!
