About this activity
For many years, audiences have longed to go behind the scenes at the Grand Rex, not only to uncover the secrets of this truly unique cinema but also to venture to the other side of the screen, to places that until now have been the preserve of industry professionals. The Art Deco cinema and listed building, le Grand Rex, created an exciting new tour called Rex Studios.

 WHAT DOES THE TOUR INCLUDE?

Welcome

Before beginning the tour, visitors stop off at the top floor of the Rex Tower, which has been recreated on the ground floor and traces the history of the Grand Rex, a cinema unlike any other. Once in the Tower, images are projected showing key moments in the cinema’s past, including its construction in the 1930s when the famous starry ceiling was unveiled to the public for the first time

The director’s office

Leaving the lift, visitors discover the history of the Rex in a treasure trove of photographs, trophies, Oscars and awards.

The projection room

The projection room is one of the most secret and mysterious places in the cinema and for once it is not out of bounds! Once inside this usually forbidden place, visitors can uncover the ins and outs of this little-known occupation, see a selection of old projectors and find out more about the reel of film.

The tunnel of stars

In this one-of-a-kind tunnel, visitors can listen in on conversations between the great names in film. A fun and memorable experience to delight and amuse visitors!

The special effects room

Fascinating, mysterious and essential to film design, special effects and other industry secrets are exposed and explained in this room. Visitors take part in a film shoot and are put to the test during an earthquake tere.

The film set

Visitors become extras and go behind the scenes on the set of a disaster film. Fledgling actors are thrown into the thick of the action in a thrilling adventure film, coming face to face with a frighteningly realistic King Kong who has the Grand Rex in his sights...

The recording studio

After the film set, the next stop is the recording studio. Here, visitors can sit in front of a microphone and try their hand at dubbing before heading back to the projection room, to take their seat in the audience. However, one last surprise awaits them on the screen…
