About this activity
This is a whole day tour beginning at 8.30am. This tour will give you the opportunity to visit one of our most beautiful islands, the renowned Pele Island which won the Best Tour Award in 2005 and one of our tours submitted for Entry in the 2015 -16 Tourism Awards which Evergreen won as best soft & recreational tour.
This is a chance to learn about the historical and local life of the island people along with their way of daily living. At the pick up point, you are greeted by our friendly tour guide with Evergreen chilled water and a brief introduction to the tour.
The drive to the northern part of the island takes about twenty minutes to almost half an hour. At Emua Wharf, you are escorted to your dinghy which is our latest addition along with life jackets and flares for safety requirements. The boat trip to the island takes about ten minutes on fine weather.
At the island you are welcomed by swaying palms, white sandy beach and crystal clear, turquoise waters and serenity sounds of local string band in the background and the biggest smiles you’ll ever see.
Upon stepping ashore, the tour guide gives a brief on your schedule for the day and available facilities on the island. Once you are settled on the beach side and have found your relaxing spot, it's time to do some snorkelling at a beautiful reef site located hundred meters offshore.
The area from this village on Pele Island to Nguna Island (next door) has officially been a Marine Protected Area since year 2003. Fishing is prohibited in these areas therefore marine life is abundant.
Onshore, a sumptuous barbecue lunch awaits you, prepared by our very own local chef Wawa (Uncle) George. Cold drinks are provided and Tusker beer also available at cash bar.
After siesta you are guided to the nearby village. Pele Island people are born of the sea. In this immense aquatic environment we not only make a living from its abundant waters but also consider its shoreline our marine playground.
We are pleased to share its unique pleasures with you. The turquoise beauty of our lagoons beckon you to snorkel virtually anywhere inside the reef on the island. A prolific abundance of tropical marine life, colorful fish and interesting corals can be viewed.
See how the island people live and learn about their relaxed lifestyle. You will also have a chance to visit the local primary school and be entertained by their cheerful singing. Here, you can hand out your stationery goods to the children should you wish to. School facilities are very basic and paper and pencils are sometimes very scarce.
After the village visit, you can head back to the beach. Take a snorkel, or a swim at your own leisure or go for a paddle on our kayaks. Relax and enjoy the afternoon lazing on the beach.
Afternoon tea of warm beverages and biscuits are then served before it's time to say goodbye to the people and the island.
The villagers and children would stand by the shoreline and bide the day guests’ farewell with their warm and friendly smiles as another day ends for some in paradise.
The day should finish at around 5.30 pm. A portion of this tour is contributed to the village. Precedents are donated to the development of the village. A tank has been donated by Evergreen to the village for the supply of clean drinking water.
