Stop At: Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), Terreiro Se, Porto 4050-573 Portugal

This Romanesque style construction began in the twelfth century. Several changes up until the twentieth century did not quite manage to lessen its somewhat primitive austerity. The sacristy, cloister and the beautiful blue (azulejo) tiles that cover its galleries, as well as the chapel, date from the Gothic period. A beautiful 13th century rosace stands out on the west front. The paintings by Nasoni, the carved gilded wood altarpiece and the silver altar of the Blessed Sacrament are all noteworthy. Mass is still celebrated there but if it is tranquility which you seek, do not miss the cloister.

If you came by train you will, for sure, have arrived at Porto Campanha, a modern station that serves the main lines. But in the São Bento railway station, travel without leaving the station and admire the azulejos, these beautiful Portuguese tiles which depict historical life scenes.

Ribeira is a picturesque neighborhood in Porto by the riverside, with tiny houses painted in colourful tones. Ribeira is always packed with people, as it has many souvenir shops, restaurants and bars with a view towards the Douro river.

At Ribeira you will be close to D. Luís bridge, the famous iron bridge of Porto. You will also have a premium location to visit the Stock Exchange Palace and St Francis Church (a stunning example of Gothic architecture in Porto).
