About this activity
The Humpback Whales are regular visitors in the Bay of Saman. Every year from mid-January until mid-April, these huge mammals leave the arctic to mate and give birth in the protected bay along the Dominican Republics east coast. The whales have been wintering in this region for centuries. There is evidence by old Taino cave painting in the nearby Los Haitises National Park which depict blowing whales. Our tour begins by taking an hour road trip on the new road in one of our modern, equipped vehicles, where you will have the opportunity to watch the countryside along the coast and the Anamuya Mountain range. We will head to the fishermen town of Caitas. In Caitas, take a seat in our comfortable boat and enjoy the ride to the sanctuary of the Humpback Whales. We sail to Cayo Levantado, a beautiful island in the middle of the blue and turquoise water of Saman Bay. Then, enjoy a lunch on the beach. Take some time off to relax and swim before the ride back to Caitas.
