Eyjafjallajökull Volcano and Black Beaches of Iceland Experience in a Super Jeep from Reykjavik

1 day
About this activity
Get picked up near your centrally located hotel and, after meeting your guide, jump aboard the Super Jeep, which leaves Reykjavík at around 9am. Make sure to bring a packed lunch, or some money to purchase food along the way, and come dressed in warm, waterproof clothes and footwear.
Head for the southwest coast toward Gigjökull glacier which stretches down from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, perhaps most notorious globally for its 2010 eruption. Hear about other recent seismic activity in the area as you comfortably ride over varied terrain, including small streams and glacial rivers in the trusted Super Jeep. Stop at Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland's best-known waterfalls where you can actually walk behind the water that pours down from high cliffs. With luck, you'll be able to snap a photo of one of the frequent rainbows that appear in the waterfall's mist.
Grab your camera once more for the strikingly photogenic black beaches formed by volcanic basalt crumbling down to the shore. Take a minute to soak up the remarkable sight of powerful white waves crashing onto the jet-black sand. Listen as your guide tells stories about life and culture in this atmospheric part of the country, and about the malicious trolls of Icelandic legend.
Nine to ten hours after you set out, you'll be transported back to Reykjavík and on the way we will stop to experience the stunning Skogafoss waterfall.
