About this activity
Depart from your Reykjavik pick up point and travel to Thorsmork Valley in the comfort of a 4x4 super jeep that has been specially customized to travel smoothly through Iceland’s rugged terrain. Thorsmork is located in a stunning valley whose jagged landscape is surrounded by towering canyons and glaciers.

Wind through the foothills of Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, stopping briefly to take photos at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, before arriving to Basar, a hiking center at the heart of the valley. Listen to a safety briefing and then set off behind your guide at a steady pace. The hiking route is approximately 16 km long, and takes you by Fimmvorduhals Volcano, an active volcano which exploded in the beginning of 2010.

Zigzag up steep trails past craters and cooling lava falls, taking in outstanding views of the highlands. As you walk, hear about the country’s landscape and volcanic activity from the guide. Roughly halfway through the hike, you’ll stop to eat the packed lunch that you brought along with you (own expense).

Your 6-8-hour hike concludes in Basar, after which you’ll ride back to central Reykjavik in the 4x4 jeep.

Please note: The paths are relatively steep and require a good general fitness.
