About this activity
Leave Reykjavik by air-conditioned coach, and admire the landscape as you travel to the starting point of the hike located in Landmannalaugar.

Landmannalaugar is an active geothermal wilderness near Mt Hekla volcano, located in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve.

Made up of lava fields, glacial lakes and multi-colored peaks, Landmannalaugar is considered to be one of Iceland’s most beautiful regions and is speckled with geothermal hot springs, bubbling vents and steaming pools.

Upon arrival, admire the stunning surroundings of this beautiful area while lacing up your hiking boots to start your hike. Accompanied by your guide. walk through the expansive lava fields of Laugahraun and take in the peaks all around this geothermal phenomenon as you learn how the area's lava is a remnant of a volcanic eruption in 1477.

Hike through craggy Vondugil Canyon and ascend the slopes of the Brennisteinsalda volcano, past steaming vents and sulphurous deposits. Absorb panoramic views from the top and descend through the Graenagil canyon, carved out by the geodynamic forces of nearby peaks, glacial rivers and volcanoes.

If time and weather permit, hike up Mt Bláhnúkur, a 60,000-year-old volcano. Pause at the summit to enjoy dizzying views of the Landmannalaugar valley with its lakes and colorful mountains, and then trek back to Landmannalaugar for a dip in its famous hot springs. Descend into the soothing, steamy waters that are fed by both hot and cold water flows, and ease your muscles after your hike.

Afterwards, relax on your return journey and end your experience with a drop-off at the start point.
