National park Þingvellir (Thingvellir in English spelling). Þingvellir is important because this is where one of the three first parliaments in the world was founded during the viking times.

The parliament was such a huge success from the beginning that up to 5000 people gathered on the parliamentary plains every summer making it some sort of capital of Iceland in those days. The national park is a world heritage site because this is where the two tectonic plates are drifting apart. We will cross the plates today on our way to Gullfoss.

Golden waterfall Gullfoss which is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. The waterfall has often a lot of spray so you might want to take rain gear with you!

Stop At: Geysir, Haukadalur Iceland

Geothermal area Geysir where you will have a chance to see and take photos of the geyser Strokkur spouting hot water and steam. Other geysers in the area as well but Strokkur is the most active geyser.
