About this activity

Iceland has experienced a “microbrew revolution” in the last few years. In 2006, the first microbrewery opened in the small village of Árskógssandur in North Iceland. Since then a number of exciting microbreweries have opened up all around Iceland, each experimenting with different ingredients and tastes, some achieving remarkable success, creating truly exceptional beers.

You will learn some history of Iceland in relation to alcohol: What has beer to do with the settlement of Reykjavík, and what kind of beer did the heroes of the Sagas drink? Why was beer banned until 1989 (yes, you read that right: Beer was actually banned in Iceland from 1915-1989!) What did Icelanders drink during the beer-ban years, and what has propelled the recent explosion of craft brewing in Iceland?

This tour is perfect for anyone interested in getting to know and taste some of the best beers Iceland has to offer while listening to real stories, fun facts and the history of the town. No beer lover visiting Iceland should miss out on this remarkable revolution!

Please note
This is not a regular pub-crawl where the goal is to dive into the nightlife.

Included
Samplers of a range of Icelandic micro-brews, a shot of traditional Icelandic Brennivín and a taste of traditional Icelandic fermented shark or stock-fish (so that you can cross those items off your “to-do-list”!)
