2 in 1 Colosseum Maximus & Gladiator Gate

Meet your expert archaeologist guide on the grassy knoll by Colosseo metro station, a quiet place to convene with pleasant views of the Colosseum and Arch of Constantine therefrom. After brief introductions, you will walk away from the heinously busy main Colosseum entrance to the hugely impressive Gladiator Gate, an alternative entrance reserved for just a few tour operators and their small groups of travelers.

The act of walking through Gladiator Gate on to the Colosseum arena floor is a special experience, perhaps the de facto must-do activity when in Rome as it is this exact place which encapsulates the greater part of ancient Roman history: power, beauty, and death. At this point you are stood just a few metres above the Colosseum Underground. It is difficult to appreciate the complex chambers and interconnecting structures by walking around the underground areas which are open (not many). From the arena floor, however, your guide will explain the mechanics of the Colosseum at it's height in 81 AD when literally thousands of captives and many more wild animals were slain.

Inside the Colosseum itself your expert guide will walk you around the circumference of the amphitheatre and up to it's mid-point from where you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view of the Colosseum basement below and Roman Forum nearby. After your Colosseum tours, we head into the forum and join the dots between Rome as a Republic and Imperial Rome, wandering between christianized temples and the remains of pagan temples, in homage to the ancient Gods of Rome!
