About this activity
We will meet in the jewish ghetto, in front of the roman ruins of the Portico of Octavia, sister of the Emperor Augustus. This square was at the center of the life of the jewish quarter and was in very recent history silent spectator of violence and racism. We will then move on to the Tiberine Island, with its ancient roman bridges still in perfect conditions. This is the only island of the Tiber, once home to a pagan temple the same location now hosts a beautiful church. Leaving the island we will head to Trastevere, literally across the Tiber, where real romans claim to live! This is a fascinating neighborhood, still intact, still vibrant with local life as well as being the center to new touristic attention. We will explore its tiny allies, walk through its most iconic squares and see with our own eyes what truly Rome and Romans are about. We will stop at Santa Maria in Trastevere church, which is a must see but the best part is the Villa Farnesina, once home to the most powerful banker in RenaissanceRome: Agostino Chigi, he married and asked the best, the most talented and famous artists of his time (ex. Raphael) to work for him, the result is breathtaking!
