The Construction of the Colosseum began under the rule of the Emperor Vespasian in 72 A.D. and was completed in 80 A.D. by Titus. It was built as a stadium for ceremonies and other spectacles and was represented a great triumphal monument celebrating great Roman victories. The Colosseum suffered extensive damage over the centuries by the great fire, which destroyed the wooden upper levels of the amphitheatre's interior and strong earthquakes in 1349 A.D. Over 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the Colosseum. On July 7, 2007 , the Colosseum was voted as one of New Seven Wonders of the World.

The Pantheon is the most preserved and influential building of ancient Rome. It is the temple dedicated to all the gods of pagan Rome. As the brick stamps on the side of the building reveal it was built and dedicated between A.D 118 and 125.

The emperor Hadrian (A.D 117-138) built the Pantheon to replace Augustus’ friend and Commander Marcus Agrippa’s Pantheon of 27 B.C. which burnt to the ground in 80 A.D.

The Trevi Fountain as we know it today, was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732 and competed in 1762. The central figures of the fountain are Neptune, flanked by two Tritons. The site originally marked the terminal at the Aqua Virgo aqueduct built in 19 BC.

"The People’s Square" is located inside the northern, most important gate of the city, which was once called Porta Flaminia. The square is situated at the beginning of Via Flaminia and was the main entrance to the city during the Roman Empire. It is still strategically located. Three important streets part from the square: to the left, Via del Babuino; to the right, Via di Ripetta and to the centre the Via del Corso, one of the main high streets of Rome.

St. Peter's Square is one of the best-known squares in all of Italy and is an important gathering place for tourists visiting the sights of Vatican City. From St. Peter’s Square, visitors can also see the Papal Apartments, which is not only the Pope's living quarters but also the perch from which the pontiff often addresses crowds of pilgrims.

The history of these steps dates back to the late 17th century. During this time, the church was owned by the French. In order to connect the church with the piazza below, the French ordered the construction of a wide, elegant staircase, the very one that stands today.
