Montemartini Center tickets

This museum of antique artifacts and sculptures has a very peculiar mixture of past and present. The building was, in fact, a thermal power plant, inaugurated in 1912 and decommissioned in 1963. Converted into an exhibition space since 1997, the Central Montemartini holds about 400 Roman statues in a stunning setting of industrial archeology.

The pieces of the exhibitions are divided into three themes, one of Republican Rome, another of the monumental center of Rome, and another featuring pieces of the imperial homes and gardens. Among the statues you can find Roman copies of original Greek busts, the renown Celian Hill, pieces of the Temple of Apollo Sosiano and many more

The backdrop of these however are the rooms and halls of what used to be Rome’s very first electric power plant. The rooms that house the museum’s exhibits are the atrium, featuring compressed air canisters, the columned hall featuring solid cement structures, the machine hall and the boiler hall.
