About this activity

Visit the ruins of Pompeii in the iconic city of Naples in one day from Rome. We’ll take you from Rome to Pompeii on an air-conditioned coach where you’ll meet your official, licensed Pompeii tour guide. Traveling in groups of only 25 people or less, you’ll explore examples of every building in Pompeii – from homes to bath houses, fast food stores and outdoor theaters.

All tour operators are obliged to use official local tour guides in Pompeii, and we’ve selected the most entertaining and knowledgeable guides to ensure that your day is as enjoyable as it is memorable. Our licensed Pompeii guides are expert English-speakers too – so we’ll give you headsets to be sure that you catch every word, with a little extra space for wandering and taking photos throughout.

Follow your expert local guide as they recreate the hustle and bustle of this once-busy port town, explaining what each building was used for, where families ate their meals, did laundry and socialized – and where sailors went when they docked. They’ll recreate for you the final days of Pompeii as you examine the harrowing death casts scattered around these ruins at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius.

Our Pompeii day trip doesn’t end here, however. We’ll drive a short way to perhaps the most dangerous volcano in the world – a title held for the 3 million people living around its base today. You’ll take a half-mile hike up Mt. Vesuvius, where the summit offers the most stunning view of the Bay of Naples below and a taste of the utter devastation it must have caused when it exploded in 79 AD.

During the winter months, when Mount Vesuvius is closed, we visit Naples, the beautiful city by the bay. Naples sits in an incredible natural context crowned by Mt. Vesuvius, continental Europe’s only active volcano. It’s also situated close to the stunning islands of Capri and Ischia, which you’ll be able to see in the distance.

We’ll take a panoramic bus tour and have some free time to walk around the city center, to take in the atmosphere of this buzzing city. Some of its main features are the iconic Castle Nuovo, also called Maschio Angioino, the famous Umberto I Gallery, an art deco masterpiece of glass and iron, and Plebiscito Square, where you can sample an authentic Neapolitan coffee or a delicious local pastry while watching the world go by.

Our Pompeii Day Trip from Rome includes an authentic Neapolitan pizza lunch and round-trip transport from Rome. As well as your official local guide in Pompeii, you’ll have an expert, English-speaking tour coordinator to entertain you on the way to and from Rome, so, you can relax and enjoy your Pompeii day trip without worrying about the ins and outs of cross-country travel.
