Stop At: Sistine Chapel, Citta del Vaticano 1, 00120 Vatican City Italy

The tour will start at either 9.30am or 2.30pm, depending on your preference, and, as this is a private tour you are able to enter some of the rooms in the museums which are off limits to larger tour groups, and be able to travel at your own pace. You will be met by your guide at the entrance to the Vatican museums and with pre-booked tickets you’ll start the tour straight away, visiting the Belvedere Courtyard, the Pio-Clementino Museum and the vast collection of Ancient Roman and Greek statues.

Next, you will visit the Gallery of Tapestries followed by the Gallery of Maps, where you’ll see one of the world’s most important collections of Renaissance maps. In the Sobiesky Room you’ll view one of the largest paintings in the Vatican as well as the room of the Immaculate Conception, which is adorned with incredible frescoes.

Raphael’s Rooms are a ‘must see’; painted for Pope Julius II, they display some of Raphael’s most celebrated works, the Parnassus and The School of Athens.

Before you enter the Sistine Chapel (no talking is allowed inside) your guide will tell you more about the stunning frescoes by Michelangelo, Botticelli and others that decorate the walls and ceiling inside. You will also hear fascinating anecdotes about this famous chapel that is still in use today - notably as the setting for Conclave, the papal election.

Following the chapel, the tour will progress to the imposing Saint Peter’s Basilica where you’ll see Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino amongst other works of art celebrating the lives of Popes and Saints. The tour ends in Saint Peter’s Square where you can catch a glimpse of the colourful Swiss Guards, as well as view the exterior of the papal palace.
