About this activity
Visit: Museo Leonardo Da Vinci Experience, Via della Conciliazione 19 Pochi passi da Piazza San Pietro, 00193 Rome Italy

Head for Vatican City to reach the Leonardo da Vinci Experience, not far from St. Peter's Basilica. Create your own schedule when visiting the exhibition, which is open from 9:00am until 7:00pm daily.

Explore the various rooms of the exhibition to see different inventions and artwork (reproductions) by Leonardo da Vinci. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to admire Leonardo’s machines, paintings and most famous fresco brought together for the first time.

ROOM I: THE FLYING MACHINES, THE LAST SUPPER

The first room of the Leonardo da Vinci Experience is dedicated to flying machines, including a prototype of a hang glider. Don't miss the Aerial Screw, designed to be made of wood, linen and wire, a veritable predecessor to the modern-day propeller.

The same room showcases the life-size reproduction of the 'Last Supper.' This painting remains mysterious to this day - is it John the Baptist or Mary Magdalene sitting to the right of Jesus?

ROOM II: WAR MACHINES

Da Vinci’s Codices contain numerous studies of military machines and weapons. The second room of the Leonardo da Vinci Experience exhibition features some of the most fascinating war machines built to Leonardo’s designs - the Catapult, the lethal Cannon, and the innovative Multi-Directional Gun Machine with 12 barrels.

ROOM III: THE PERSPECTIVES

Some of Leonardo’s studies anticipated the most revolutionary inventions in the field of photography and film by several centuries. The exhibition showcases some of Leonardo’s most brilliant insights in the field of optics and music, including the Perspectograph, Projector, and Double Flute.

The Room of Mirrors is also located here - an ingenious chamber with 8 mirrored walls allowing an object to be viewed in its entirety without having to move it.

ROOM IV: PRINCIPLES

How many everyday objects exist because of the genius of Leonardo? Admire the spring, the Study of Chains and the Bicycle, the sketch of the Trench Digger (designed to dig a canal to join the Arno river to the sea), the Webbed Glove (the precursor to modern-day flipper), the Life-preserver, the Jack or Crick, and many more.

ROOM V: PAINTINGS

The gallery of paintings proudly displays 20 works. Among them, you'll see two version of the Virgin of the Rocks (the originals of which are at the Louvre and London’s National Gallery), two versions of the Madonna of the Yarnwinder, the Lady with an Ermine, the Annunciation, and even the famous Mona Lisa.
