About this activity

Believe it or not, the Summer of Love started with big homes and cheap rent. You'll explore the other reasons this old Victorian neighborhood attracted a youth movement that revolutionized the country as you visit the homes that hosted some of its most influential figures. With stops at landmarks like the Grateful Dead house and Amoeba Records, you'll immerse ourselves in the music and memories of the Summer of Love. You'll also discuss the ways that the hippie spirit lives on in the neighborhood when you stop at the Janis Joplin Mural and poke your heads into the landmark Piedmont Boutique, one of the oldest and most locally-beloved shops in the neighborhood.
