About this activity
This tour is a cultural gem; the combination of a visit to Irazu Volcano National Park, the abundant plant life at Lankester Garden and Orosi Valley.

Departing San Jose, you will head south along the Pan-American Highway until reaching the base of the behemoth “Iztaru” (the name of an indigenous village that was situated on the flanks of the volcano, possibly the origin from which Irazu Volcano takes its name).

The winding road traverses fertile lands where different vegetation is cultivated, and you will enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys during the ascent. On a clear day, from the very top of Irazu's summit, you might be able to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

From Irazu volcano, the next stop will be Cartago, to visit the Virgin of the Angels Basilica, a famous peregrination site, with large vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained-glass windows.

More than 800 species of orchids, bromeliads and other species await you at the beautiful Lankester Gardens, which serves as a University of Costa Rica Center for investigation to protect species. You will be impressed by the diversity of species which grow in the wild.

The picturesque Valley of Orosi, is home to one of the few remaining colonial churches in the region. Enjoy a scrumptious typical lunch at one of the local restaurants.

An interesting day combining culture, history and nature.
