About this activity
The tour starts at either 8:30 am or 11:30 am at our base in La Virgen de Sarapiqui, Heredia, Costa Rica. Our friendly staff will greet you and make you feel at home at our beautiful outdoor center. First, we will select the right gear for you, including a helmet, lifejacket, spray skirt, kayak, and paddle. Then, we will load up the van and take a short drive to the lower, calmer section of the Sarapiqui River.

Before entering the water, the tour guide will explain all the necessary safety information. You will learn how to properly enter and exit a kayak, correct paddling form, how to turn the boat, and what to do in case you fall out of your kayak. You will be given the opportunity to practice paddling in the calm pools, before heading down river on the Class I and II rapids.

The guide will always lead the way down the river and will point out interesting flora and fauna. Your guide will also give you tips to improve your paddling so that you can work on your skills, as well!

After about 12 km of paddling (about 2 hours), you will exit the river and load up the van to return back to our base. Upon return to the base, you will be provided with a towel and changing rooms. Once dry, the group will meet up again to view the photos and videos of the day and enjoy a snack of fried yucca, pineapple, oranges, and coconut water. The photos and videos will be available for purchase for an extra charge.
