Your first stop is Joya de Ceren, also known as the “Pompeii of the Americas” for its valuable contribution to our modern understanding of the Mayan Civilization. This archeology site was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 - El Salvador's only site on the list. This is a unique destination in the Mayan World because you will discover the houses of the ancient Mayans that were preserved by volcanic eruptions. This site is a must-visit when in El Salvadore. Next, you will visit the San Andrés archeological site. This was a very important political and religious center with diverse structures that were used by the Mayan governors during that period. After the local tour through the archeological sites, transfer to Santa Ana City, the second most important city in the country. Santa Ana holds one of the best preserved historic centers in the country. Its main buildings are, the Cathedral, the National Theater, and the Municipal Palace. Last but not least, visit the archeological site of Tazumal with the largest pyramid in El Salvador. This archaeological site was a sophisticated city of Mayan culture, where the knowledge that prehispanic inhabitants already possessed in art, such as sculpture, for example, has been manifested through numerous pieces found.
