Santo Domingo Morning Trikke Bike and Food Tour

About this activity
What is a trikke you ask?! A unique and fun blend of electric motorised bicycle and scooter, this awesome three-wheeled vehicle is a great way to cover a larger area of the city, ensuring you can squeeze in even more sights and bites on our morning tour!
We’ll depart from the centre of the colonial district, spending some time getting used to your funky new mode of transport.
As your local guide gives you the lowdown on the city, we’ll roll our way over to El Conde Street, a delightful pedestrianised area where you’ll discover charming snack bars, small cafes and atmospheric handicraft stores.
We’ll then head down more charmingly narrow streets where you’ll learn about the street food us Dominicans love, and of course you’ll have an opportunity to try some of our favourite cuisine.
The mouth-watering smells of food being cooked together with the soundtrack of enthusiastic street vendors hawking their wares and exhilarating merengue rhythms will give you a heady insight into the vibrant culture of our city.
As we go, you’ll find out why Santo Domingo is known as the city of firsts and uncover the fascinating history of our city, whose historic centre is the oldest in the ‘New World.’ And of course, we’ll sample a variety of sweets made of coconut, pineapple and even sweet potatoes and peanuts!
Our speedy mode of transport will then allow us to get off the beaten track and visit the neighbourhoods of San Lazaro, San Miguel and San Anton on the outskirts of the city. Remaining unknown to most tourists on the island, these charming spots offer the chance to step back in time and enjoy the traditions of a much missed bygone era.
Finally, we’ll get refreshed with an ice cold local beer (or soft drink, whatever you prefer) from the Colmado, a grocery store that sells food in the mornings and then transforms into a popular bar in the afternoon and evenings where the locals gather to play dominoes, listen to music and chat after work.
Once we’ve returned our trikkes, your Santo Domingo tour will come to an end. Before you go, don’t forget to ask your local guide for tips on what else to see, do and eat during your stay on our magical island.
