About this activity
Visit: Hospital de los Venerables, Plaza Venerables 8, 41004 Seville Spain

Created in 1676 as a welfare building, it preserves the authenticity of an atmosphere that transports to a bygone era, of a peculiar nature and full of an intangible character that ensures, more than anything, the quality of the visitor's aesthetic and emotional experience.

The Hospital de los Venerables is one of the 18 spaces that make up the cultural and tourist itineraries organized to commemorate the fourth centenary of the birth of the painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo in Seville, his hometown. Thus, it shows the public two original works of this great artist, Santa Catalina and San Pedro Penitente de los Venerables, both works rescued by the Focus Foundation after the pillage carried out by Marshal Soult during the Napoleonic invasion. In addition, you can see reproductions of the Immaculate Conception of the Venerable, Virgin and Child delivering bread to priests and Portrait of Don Justin de Neve.

The Diego Velázquez Research Center is a space of the Focus Foundation that arises on the acquisition of the Santa Rufina canvas in 2007, and responds to the need to have a place to investigate, disseminate and reflect on the background and consistent with the work of the great Sevillian painter, whose pictorial representation and legacy in the city were insufficient to date.

Through the works that make up the permanent collection, it recreates the historical and artistic universe in which Diego Velázquez moved (1599-1660) from his early years until his transfer to the court in 1624, thus demonstrating the revolution that was the artist in the evolution of the history of Sevillian painting.

A panorama of current art. The Focus Foundation has opened its new contemporary art room to the public, where visitors can marvel at more than 30 works by artists such as Antonio López, Carmen Laffón, Gustavo Torner or Fernando Botero, among others.
