About this activity
Meet your friendly guide at the Shanghai port after your cruise ship docks, and hop in your comfortable private vehicle for your full-day sightseeing tour of the city. First, head to the Jade Buddha Temple, built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1875-1909 AD), for a guided tour. Admire the large collection of Burmese jade statues as your guide tells you about the temple’s Shanghai Buddhist Institute and the monks who reside there.

Then, enjoy a visit to the Fresh Water Pearl Gallery for a fascinating lesson on pearl cultivation. You might be one of the lucky recipients of a complimentary gift – a beautiful freshwater pearl.

When you reach People’s Square in the city center, stroll around the large park, which occupies the site of a former horseracing course. Admire the greenery and the surrounding buildings, such as the Shanghai Grand Theatre and Shanghai Art Museum.

Then, walk to the Shanghai Museum to view the bronze ware, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, coins and furniture on exhibit. Your guide will point out the museum’s permanent collection, which houses more than 120,000 objects spanning 5,000 years of history in China.

Your guide will accompany you to a local restaurant for a delicious Chinese lunch. Afterward, visit Shanghai Old Street and the charming Yuyuan Garden, enjoying classic sights from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Then, head to the Shanghai waterfront to walk along the Bund, a 2-mile-long (4-km) row of buildings that showcases pre-1949 architecture and site of the city’s financial and commercial center of the 1930s.

Next, enter the silk factory and learn how Chinese silk has been produced since the 14th century. Your guide can help you purchase some silk at bargain prices.

Finally, enjoy a drive to Xin Tian Di, Shanghai's latest entertainment district, passing lovely tree-lined streets and weathered European architecture in the former French Concession District. Stretch your legs along the two square blocks, where well-preserved brick buildings have been transformed into fashionable clubs, restaurants and boutiques, before your guide returns you to the Shanghai cruise port.

Before you make the booking, please check with your cruise company or your agent to confirm the name of the cruise port. There are 3 cruise ports in Shanghai and surrounding. They are Shanghai International Cruise Terminal at Dong Da Ming Road, Baoshan Port at Wusongkou, and Waigaoqiao Port. Choosing the correct cruise port is very important.
