Stop At: El Meco Ruins, Puerto Juarez 77500 Mexico
El Meco is located to the north of Cancun en route to Punta Sam and Puerto Juarez. It has the highest archaeological structure in the northern peninsula (12m/40ft) which supports archaeological findings that this location was used for maritime navigation. From the top of the Castillo one can see the Caribbean Sea, all of Cancun’s lagoons, and Isla Mujeres. It is thought to be the lighthouse of the region.

This is where the locals come to shop for fruits/vegetables, meats & cheese, household items, stationary items etc. There is one lane dedicated to food stalls which is quite popular as we couldn’t find a free table at any of them! You need a pretty good handle on Mexican food to be able to eat here

Puerto Morelos is divided by a highway and a mangrove swamp into three sections. The section west of the highway is known as "Colonia Joaquin Zetina Gazca". The section east of the highway is called "Colonia Pescadores". The section on the coast east of the mangrove swamp is "Puerto" or "Antiguo (old) Puerto Morelos". This original coastal fishing village is now a quiet, mixed-use neighborhood of private homes, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, and tourist shops.
