Be Balinese For a Day With a Local

Become a member of a Balinese farming family for a day and experience their unique tradition. You will be hosted by the local family either with Putu Arnawa or Kadek Anto or Made Sila as driver/ English speaking guide and Made Marsih and Mbok Ketut as your assistance/ chef in cooking.

Your guide will take you to the local morning market to experience the daily hustle and bustle of shopping for fresh ingredients. Later you will visit the family home and meet the rest of the team. You'll be able to see the animals that the family raise and see the farm land where the vegetable and species are grown.

Then you will hike to their beautiful rice field and learning about rice growing. If your timing with the rice growing stage is right and if you dare, you are more than welcome to help the family farm the rice!

The highlight of the day will be cooking together with your local family and using the local ingredients and the traditional cooking tool, the wooden fire stove.

During the cooking class you will make some steamed rice, vegetable soup, corn fritters, saté, corn fritter, mix vegetable, steam pork or chicken wrapped in banana leaves, fried banana or black rice pudding. The menu might change depending on the availability of the ingredient in the garden and market.

After the meals is cooked and ready, you will get to enjoy your home-made lunch over looking the Ayung river gorge. While having your desert, you will be shown how to make a Balinese daily offering.

In order to get the best experience and best deal of this unique day we recommend you to joint with at least 2 of you.

8:00: Pick-up from centrally located hotel in Ubud

08.30: Visit traditional Balinese market

09.15: Visit Balinese family house

09.30: Hike to rice field and Bali plantation

10.15: Cook in traditional Balinese way

12.30: Having Balinese lunch. The meals that we cook together

13.15: Observing how to make Balinese offering

13.30: Drive back to your hotel in Ubud area

14.00: Arrive in your hotel in Ubud area
