About this activity
Step into what was once a mid 16th-century oar workshop and storage facility, and explore what's now the Naval History Museum in Venice. See amazing, historic ships, see where the blacksmiths worked, learn about oar production and more!
Learn about Venice's military history, and the relationship the city has always had with the sea and its lagoons.
The Pavilion was built in the mid-16th century as an oar workshop. Now you can visit over 25,000 objects, dating back to when Venice headed up a powerful colonial empire, stretching from the Northern Adriatic sea to the Dalmatian coast and Cyprus island.
Don't miss the impressive reproduction of Bucintoro . This beautifully decorated and luxurious galley ship was used by the Doge during the Marriage of the Sea ceremony - an ancient ceremony symbolizing the maritime supremacy of La Serenissima .
It's an awe-inspiring look into the city's past (or should that be oar-inspiring?).
