About this activity
Enjoy the Lagoon of Venice like a local while visiting the southern lagoon fishing villages: Pellestrina and Chioggia.

Cruise from Venice to Lido passing by the island of Poveglia, a former quarantine station, to reach the village of Malamocco, the first home of the Doge of Venice.

You'll pass in front of the port entrance of Alberoni, famous for its beautiful golf course, and reach the thinner island of Pellestrina, which includes the villages of San Pietro in Volta and Pellestrina itself. The whole island is protected from the sea by an imposing stone barrier, called a murazzi, built by the Venetian Republic to prevent the sea from wearing out lagoon levees. The 6 mile (10 km) stretch of murazzi from Pellestrina to Cà Roman stands alone to separate the lagoon and the Adriatic Sea.

Before crossing the port to Chioggia, it is possible to stop for some bird-watching at the uncontaminated natural reserve of Cà Roman. The last stop is Chioggia, still a fishing village. This city, very similar to Venice, is characterized by its many bridges and canals.
