About this activity
Enjoy the Lagoon of Venice like a local and admire the beauties of two of its hidden gems: Burano and San Francesco del Deserto.

Depart from St. Mark's square area passing by Lido island, La Certosa island, the Arsenal and Murano. Arrive after 30 minutes cruise to San Francesco del Deserto island. This tiny island is recognizable by its small cypress wood in the middle of the lagoon between Burano and Sant’Erasmo. Since 1227 it has housed a friary founded by San Francesco d’Assisi on his way back from the Holy Land. It is here that the “Miracle of the birds” took place. The tour starts from the little church and cloister and finishes with a stroll in the beautiful garden, where you can see Burano from a distance.

Burano is a little island in Venice lagoon, famous for its typical handmade laces and its colored houses. Burano inhabitants live in a quiet and special intimacy that has nothing to do with the chaos of Venice. It's still common to see fishermen repairing their traditional finish nets in front of their little two-story houses. Streets are very narrow and each house has a different bright colour to identify it by the fishermen from the outer lagoon.
