About this activity
Enjoy a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get a real taste of Hungary.

Cross the Austro-Hungarian border heading southeast from Vienna and enter the Hungarian plain. After crossing many typical villages of the region and the picturesque Bakony Hills area, get to Herend and visit the world-famous Porcelain Manufactory. In a guided tour (only in English) a local expert will reveal you different stages of and the mystery behind the production of masterful craftsmanship.

After the factory’s visit, take a look at some of the most brilliant masterpieces in the Manufactory’s Museum or stroll around the endless products of Herend Company in the local shop and get a closer view of the most special examples, some of them that were purchased by Emperor Francis Joseph, Tsar Alexander II of Russia and the Rotschild family.

Continue your trip to Lake Balaton after Herend. Make a stop at the tip of the Tihany Peninsula overlooking the “Hungarian sea”, and get to know in an audioguided tour the 11th century Benedictine Tihany Abbey. After the visit, enjoy your free time in an area of pottery houses, paprika and lavender shops or have a lunch at one of the Csárda’s, a typical Hungarian restaurant with folkloric atmosphere.

At the end of your stay in the Lake Balaton area, take a walk along the promenade at Balatonfüred, one of Hungary’s most popular holiday resorts. (With bathing option in summer time)

The Day Trip concludes with a return to Vienna and a drop off at your hotel.
