About this activity
Eat breakfast or lunch before your guide arrives at 9am (morning departures) or 1pm (afternoon departures) to accompany you on the 45-minute drive to the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum.
A destination that sits alongside the Great Wall as a classic China must-see, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum was listed by UNESCO in 1987. Many of the astonishingly lifelike clay warriors and horses still stand in the pits from which they were excavated, which are covered year round to enable all-season viewing.
The highlight of the museum is the massive Pit 1, which occupies 77,995 square feet (14,629 square meters), and houses around 6,000 lifesize warriors and horses. Your guide will also escort you to the smaller pits and the on-site museum, home to artifacts from bronze swords, spears, crossbows, and other weapons through to bronze models of chariots with warriors.
Learn about the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, a vast mound which remains a mystery as the technology does not yet exist to protect its contents from excavations, and how Qin Shi Huang shaped the future of China before his death.
You'll have around three and a half hours at the site – if you're traveling with kids, you may wish to dress up in warrior costume and pose for photos – before driving back to Xian, arriving at your hotel around 2pm or 6pm depending on your choice of departure.
